[Figure - Review] Figma SSSS.Gridman

Summary: SSSS.Gridman took the world by storms, acting as Studio Trigger's redemption after Darling in the Franxx. Denkou Choujin Gridman is a 1993 tokusatsu TV show about a group of young people protecting the digital world and real world from a computerized menace. SSSS.Gridman shares the same concept with new innovations and ideas, and successfully bring us both nostalgia and new excitement.

+Sculpt & Painting: Max Factory's figma is well known for their human figures, and Gridman inherited that quality. The sculpt is super anime-accurate, dynamic and streamlined. The painting  is very nice, especially on the Acceptor (which is the most important part). Due to the new design, the color separation is vibrant to the eyes. All the parts that may suffer paint-chipping are red matte and coated perfectly while the metallic silver shines through. The black thigh-armor are also rubbery to avoid damage because those parts collide with the hips a lot. The Gridman Calibur is also painted perfectly with metallic gold (might need to be careful to avoid scratches). 

 

+Articulation & Posing: Figmas are known to be pretty but restricted in movements (largely due to character's clothes). Fortunately, the Primal Fighter got no such problem. Gridman is highly articulated. The shoulders have moving gimmicks in the sockets to provide a wide range of movement. The shoulder armors are also on separate joins. The torso can bend crazy angles. Thighs are separate into 2 different joints: 1 ball joint at the socket and 1 swivel. Essentially, aside from looking straight outta the anime, it can moves like the anime too. One area they should have done better is the feet articulation, quite limited. 

+Accessories & Gimmicks: In terms of gimmicks, there isn't much on Gridman. He doesn't have any opening back-thrusters nor special gimmicks either. That helps keep him at an affordable price-point. For accessories, he got 4 pairs of hands and 1 Gridman Calibur hilt and 2 blades: 1 normal blades and one for OBARI SWORD POSE. SSSS.Gridman has Easter Eggs of Obari animation style everywhere so it is very nice to have that accessories. The figure also comes with a figma stand and zip bag like others. 

+Conclusion: Overall the best looking and playable SSSS.Gridman figure on the market. If you fancy the combiner, get the DX Gridman from GSC. If you want a bigger version, the upcoming Gigant-Techs Gridman is an up-scaled Figma (but it's not clear if it has the Gridman Calibur). The Figma Gridman is a highly playable and affordable figure of the Hyper Agent that I would highly recommend to anyone.
