The SRW animes are great series for people who haven't played the game yet...if they are released in chronological order!
The Super Robot Wars Original Generation is a series of mecha turn-based strategy games with really rich lore and a huge amount of characters and mechas. It spanned for 30 years with dozens of games, mangas and 3 anime series, which are:
1. SRW OG: The Animation. 3-episode OVA released in 2005.
2. SRW OG: Divine Wars. 26-ep anime series released in 2006 and finished in 2007.
3. SRW OG: The Inspector. 26-ep anime series released in 2010 and finished in 2011.
Well, this is all well and good, if only the timeline between the anime series are all messed up. The Animation OVA takes place after the events of the SRW: OG2 game on GBA (1). The Divine Wars is a retelling of SRW: OG game (2), and last but not least, Inspector is a retelling of SRW: OG2 game events itself (3).
So in short:
Chronological order: (2) -> (3) -> (1)
Release order: (1) -> (2) -> (3)
So if you were following all the series when it first aired, you would be seeing new characters and mechs in the animation (Lamia, Masaki, Arado, Seolla, etc...), then get surprised to see those same characters meet and mechs introduced for the first time, only to lead to more characters (that you already see in the OVA) in Inspector being introduced yet again. To put it simply, it is like watching ZZ first, then 0079, then Zeta, which, to non-game players, will feel really really weird.
Therefore, if you want a good anime timeline to watch, go: Divine Wars -> Inspector -> the Animation OVA
