EARTH GRANNER EPISODE 5
Episode 5 of Earth Granner is the best episode to date. We got a new opening, character development and more plot advance as well.
Firstly, the origin and motive of the Dark Spinner (still sounds weird for me)
The Dark Spinner is revealed to be from planet Dark. Their planet's axis was shifted suddenly one day and their planet is now on the brink of destruction. Planet Dark's king lost his body but his will was transferred to a spaceship (so he is one with the ship now). His daughter and 2 other dudes must gather as much Dark Energy as possible in order to save their planet. A justified cause with a not-so-ethical mean. It is not weird to see such development especially for a Takara kid's show. The motive of the bad guys is quite similar to Gaiking LoD and Shinkalion.
Then, we get to Rin and possibly, the third Granner.
We now know that Rin (operator girl with pink hair) is only 12 year-old and is the commander daughter. She also has a missing brother (all 4 members of her family got different hair color wow) that we saw in the opening who is most likely the pilot of a black-and-gold Granner (possibly Sabretooth Tiger).
Next, we got Leo's new form: Turbo Fire. The Tomica Gear Change system is very similar to Kamen Rider Drive tire-change (as I mentioned before). It is a cliched concept that is attractive to children and easy to sell toys (each Tomica is 500 yen). But even so, the anime's execution is neat enough. The Turbo Fire form isn't a huge change from the base form (just flip up the fangs and a new headpiece which is very cool). The Obari stance and fire effect definitely reminds me of Fire Dagwon.
Overall a neat episode, we got some decent plot pusher and more character development even from the villain side (about time!). The action this episode is still top-notch as always (seems to be unaffected by Covid-19). Looking forward to next episode!
